Phnom Penh, July 24, 2025 — Armed clashes between Cambodian and Thai forces intensified throughout the day and continued into the evening, with heavy shelling reported along multiple frontlines as of 6:00 p.m., according to Cambodian military officials.
Despite limited lulls in some sectors, active exchanges of fire were ongoing, particularly in Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces. Cambodian troops reportedly held firm positions and maintained control over strategic sites, including Ta Moan Thom Temple, Ta Krabey Temple, and the Mom Bei area—locations the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces claim to have secured following successful operations against Thai incursions.
“The situation remains tense. Cambodian forces are in full control of all current positions and continue to respond effectively to aggression,” a frontline military source said.
Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, reported that early in the morning on July 24, Thai military forces launched coordinated attacks on eight locations using heavy artillery and F-16 fighter jets. The targeted sites include:
1. Ta Moan Thom Temple
2. Ta Krabey Temple
3. Phnom Trat
4. Veal Intri
5. Tathav
6. Phnom Khak
7. An Ses O Phka Sweten
8. Mom Bei
The first shots were reportedly fired by Thai troops at Ta Moan Thom Temple in Oddar Meanchey Province, triggering a broader conflict that spread rapidly along the Cambodian-Thai border.
Officials in Phnom Penh have condemned the attacks and reaffirmed Cambodia’s right to defend its sovereignty. The Ministry of National Defense continues to monitor developments closely and has called on the international community to take note of the escalation.
